Project Engineer, Mission Critical
Ryan Companies, US | Chicago, IL | Full-Time
Contributions & Experience
During my time as a Project Engineer with mission critical (data centers and critical infrastructure) with Ryan Companies, I have focused on supporting the coordination and controls that keep daily construction activities aligned and moving forward. Much of my work involves managing RFIs, observations, and change orders, ensuring that issues are documented clearly, routed to the right teams, and resolved in a way that protects both schedule and budget. I have also supported field operations directly by participating in planning meetings, addressing in-field challenges, and helping maintain quality and alignment across scopes.

Expand Energy | Oklahoma City, OK | Internship
Contributions & Experience
At Expand, formerly Chesapeake Energy, I led the development and deployment of a live data dashboard and supported an analysis of current data providers with the goal to reduce redundancy and costs. The data integration dashboard was designed to enable easy, code-free access to the data stored in our Snowflake database. The tool included mapping capabilities, thorough custom and default filter options, customizable data visualizations, and an export tab with full customization for the .csv output. Visual features and improvements were developed using HTML and JavaScript. Backend filter schemes, visualization modifications, and export customization were coded in Python.
As Chesapeake prepared for a merger (completed late 2024), a key decision to be made was the competitor intelligence data source. To support this decision making, I supported communications between numerous teams across the organization who interacted with the software to gather feedback on the features and benefits of each of the current sources with respect to their job duties. I was able to incorporate this feedback with a formal data quality analysis, comparing the public data about Chesapeake the data providers had to our internal metrics and make a strategic recommendation to the executive team resulting in ~$3mm/yr in savings.
One of my key contributions has been developing a centralized change-order request tool to replace the fragmented, multi-platform process previously used by the team. I designed the system, automated its workflows, and created documentation covering both its build and daily use. The tool consolidates communication, reduces the likelihood of missed updates, and gives engineers and managers a clearer view of cost impacts and potential delays. I also produced training materials and delivered live walkthroughs to internal teams and subcontractor managers to support a smooth rollout across multiple project sites.

Project Engineer, Electrical
M.A. Mortenson Company | DeKalb, IL | Internship
Contributions & Experience
Returning to Mortenson for my third summer, I supported both day-to-day field operations and backend cost validation efforts at the DeKalb data center site office. In the field, I facilitated daily planning meetings with subcontractors, conducted inspections focused on safety, QA/QC, and material arrival. Though focused in the electrical rooms and data halls, I worked directly with trade partners across all teams to resolve in-field construction issues as they arose. I collaborated with the electrical scope team to analyze labor draw and material delivery timelines, using this information to help forecast upcoming payments and mitigate schedule or budget misalignment. Where subcontractor billing deviated from internally logged rental or material data, I supported issue resolution to ensure accurate payment.
To streamline cost reconciliation, I built a suite of Excel macros that compared line-item expense logs from Mortenson and its subcontractors. These tools categorized each item by match confidence and cost risk, flagging exact matches as approved, partial mismatches as low risk, and high-value or major discrepancies as high risk. The output included separate review sheets and a summary dashboard, enabling faster manager review and clear audit documentation. With these automations in place, average review time dropped by over 50%, allowing finance and field teams to focus on resolving only the highest-priority discrepancies.

M.A. Mortenson Company | DeKalb, IL | Internship
Contributions & Experience
Joining the Dekalb Data Center Special System's team, I was introduced to the complexities of project management at a large scale. My primary duties in this role included hosting weekly progress meetings with our subcontractors to ensure timely completion, provide a communication channel between the project owner - Meta, Mortenson, and the subcontractors, and performing weekly quality assurance reviews to verify compliance with company policy, applicable codes, and the law.
